Backazon Engine service fails to start when computer is booted

Background
The Backazon Engine service is loaded automatically each time the system boots.  The Backazon Engine is responsible for running your scheduled backup jobs in the background.  If the Backazon Engine is not running, your backup jobs won't run.

Problem Description
On some computers, the Backazon Engine may fail to start on reboot.  However, the Backazon Engine can be started manually using either of these methods:
  • Launch the Backazon program.  The Status window will show the status of the Backazon Engine.  If the Backazon Engine is not running, you can start it using the Start Engine link.
  • Go to the Control Panel -> Administrative Options -> Services.  Choose the Backazon Engine from the list and click on the Start link.
Resolution
Microsoft has identified this to be a problem with how some programs are loaded by Windows.  Since Backazon uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, the Backazon Engine service is now affected by this problem.  For additional information about this problem, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941990.

Microsoft has also experienced the same problem with some of their own products.  As such, they recommend that you increase the amount of time Windows waits for a service to start from the default 30 to 600 seconds.  The Microsoft Knowledge base article listed above provides instructions for doing this.

After you have made the change, reboot your computer and confirm that the Backazon Engine now starts automatically.
